As many of you know, I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (commonly known as Mormons). A cool thing about this church is that congregations meet all over the world, so if you are on vacation or moving to a new place you can usually find an LDS church a reasonable distance from you. All of these congregations are taught the same thing which makes the gospel universal. Whether you are in South Africa or South Carolina, if you can find an LDS ward you will be able to learn about our Savior every Sunday. For the most part of my life I have not had to worry about this because I have moved only once and don't travel very often, but the fact that I can find the gospel even when I am so far from home this summer is priceless. I will never again take for granted my amazing home ward and the amazing blessing that I have to get myself to church every Sunday!
I miss my home ward a lot and miss my callings there, but I am learning to love the ward here. I have been able to help in both primary and nursery and I got to go to relief society for a week. I am grateful that the ward has so graciously accepted me and has so quickly got me serving. One thing that has been very different here is that I have had to rely on someone else to get me to church. This has confirmed the fact that I am not patient and that I like to be in control, but it has also been a good lesson for me. Last week, due to some miscommunication, I was not able to get to church. I never knew how much missing one week of church could effect me but it honestly threw my entire week off. I am so grateful for the many members who have worked hard to make sure that I can get to church this summer. They will never know just how much that means to me.
I feel as though I will walk away learning more life lessons at this internship rather than traditional school lessons. I have already learned so many of these lessons but the most valuable one is that I know that the gospel is true. I know that I have a Father in Heaven who listens to my prayers and that he will (and does) send peace, comfort and aid whenever he can. I am so thankful that I grew up with parents and teachers who taught me these things and allowed me to lean on their testimonies so that now as I am older I am able to have a testimony of my own!
