For the past month I have been staying at my parents house for the winter break. It has been so fun to spend time with my family and to enjoy the warmth and safety that you can't get anywhere but at home!! I have enjoyed staying in my old room and occasionally finding gems from my middle and high school days. One of those gems is a "favorite jar."
I honestly do not remember why my young women's group made these jars or what the lesson behind the jars was, but when I found this little container of memories, my heart was warmed! What I do remember about this craft was that we all had popsicle sticks that we wrote down things that make us happy or our favorite things. Looking back, I think that this jar was supposed to be something that we could look at when we were feeling down and just remember a few of the things that make us the happiest! As I rediscovered this jar I was so excited and I had a blast reading some of the popsicle sticks so I wanted to share just a few of my favorite things from my high school days!
The Jar!! |
1. Pigs!! - pigs have been my favorite animal for a long time and I think that they are just the cutest!!
2. Flashcards - this one seems kind of weird, but my favorite way to study is with flashcards and I feel much better if I have them to study before I take a test!
3. Family Outings - although spending time with family can be stressful, I (usually) love doing activities with my family whether it is going to a football game, on a road trip, or just to dinner. I love these fun outings!!
4. Science Classes - this one was so funny to me because as much as I LOVE science, at this point in my life I was planning on getting a degree in history! Science classes do make my heart so stinking happy!!
5. Babysitting - I absolutely love kids and anytime I am asked to babysit I feel so blessed to spend time with some sweet kiddos!!
6. Football! - football is a direct way to my heart and fall Friday nights in Oklahoma are some of the best days!
7. Phone Dates with Jason - Jason is my older brother. He graduated high school one year earlier than me so during my senior year he was doing his first year of college at the University of Oklahoma. During his Freshman year, he was in the OU marching band so we didn't get to see him very often during the first semester. In order to keep up with him, I would talk to him on the phone for an hour or so a week. These conversations were so fun as we gave each other advice and encouragement!!
8. Fried pies - apple pie is my favorite dessert and anything that is good is even better when it is fried, right!? ;)
Going through my "favorite jar" reminded me of several simple things that can warm my heart in just a few seconds. I definitely think that this jar will make the trip back to my dorm room!!
